TACOFINO
The original Tacofino is a food truck in the surfing town of Tofino on Vancouver Island. The truck is permanently located in the corner of a parking lot behind a surf shop and has acquired a couple picnic tables for seating. No need to worry about the truck driving away - it doesn't have any wheels.
After gaining local success with the surfers, Tacofino expanded with three more food trucks - two in Vancouver and one in Victoria. These also quickly became local favourites, with lines of hungry locals forming every lunch hour. So, Tacofino put down some roots and opened a permanent, wheel-less burrito bar and restaurant. The menu remains the same as the original location but has the added benefit of an awning when it rains.
The Burrito Bar remains popular with the lunch crowds and can draw a lineup, but thankfully it moves fast. There is limited seating here so be prepared to eat standing up outside. If you would prefer a guaranteed seat, the restaurant with access off Blood Alley has plenty. The stripped down decor of wood and green creates a peaceful atmosphere for eating.
Our favourite is the Crispy Chicken Burrito. It's filling, but somehow we always manage to split a Diablo Cookie for dessert. The cookie is the perfect combination of sweet and spicy, and should not be missed. If it's a nice day, take your meal to nearby CRAB Park (but don't let the off-leash dogs trick you into sharing).
