MOUNT PLEASANT

Vancouver's first 'suburb', Mount Pleasant developed around a stream that attracted breweries to the area between 1888 and 1912. By 1897, many working class families had moved to the area for employment and its proximity to the city centre. It remained an industrial, working class part of town until relatively recently.

Today, Mount Pleasant attracts young professionals who want to carry a hefty mortgage, but continues to be the home of long-time Vancouverites who have restored many of the areas heritage houses. Mount Pleasant is known for its artistic community, making it a hipster haven.  

Main Street's small-scale independent shops, coffee shops and restaurants are a perfect way to spend the afternoon.  After poking around Main Street it's fun to walk further into the residential part of neighbourhood to look at the historic houses and play the classic game of 'How Many Millions Does That House Cost?'.
